Decorations

Air Medal - Awarded to personnel who, while serving in any capacity in the Armed Forces, has distinguished themselves by meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight. John wore the ribbon on his uniform, but not the medal.

 

Oak Leaf Cluster - Bronze and Silver Oak Leaf Clusters are common devices placed on many military awards and decorations signifying multiple bestowals of a particular award. John received his bronze Oak Leaf Cluster as a second and subsequent award on his Air Medal.

 

Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon - Awarded to any member of the United States military who served in the Pacific Theatre from 1941 to 1945. A service star is an attachment to a military decoration which denotes participation in military campaigns or multiple bestowals of the same award.

 

American Defense Ribbon - Awarded to any military member who performed at least one year of duty.

 

American Campaign Ribbon - Awarded for completing at least 60 days of service outside the borders of the U.S. in the American Theatre of Operations.

 

World War II Victory Ribbon - Awarded to all military personnel for service between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946.
